It earns 30% of its revenue in India from the work with the government and the Smart City and Digital India initiatives will further increase this trend. “India, from a worldwide standpoint, has been our fastest growing market and it will only accelerate,” said Dmitri Chen, head of specialty sales for the Asia-Pacific and Japan region. EMC Corporation is also the company behind providing infrastructure for the Adhaar Card Project. There are tens of such private companies that would be helping the government of India in realizing the goal of digital India initiative.

With several global companies wishing to become part of Digital India program, the central government is also shifting its focus towards OSS (Open Source Software) for e-Governance applications which would provide strategic control, liberal licensing, cost-effectiveness, better security, robustness and compliance to open standards according to an expert of the field. On the other hand, the government has also started to revamp its existing IT infrastructure and departments to fit them in the current scenario of information technology. Postal system, for example, is being revamped on the lines of Digital India initiative.
